Intel Anti-Theft Protection on Lenovo’s Laptop T400

Perusahaan manufaktur Lenovo, chip maker Intel, dan publisher software security, Absolute Software telah mengumumkan joint program untuk memfasilitasi laptop Lenovo dengan teknologi anti pencurian. Hardware Intel Anti-Theft PC Protection dari Intel ini masuk ke dalam bagian komponen vPro Technology yang ada di platform Centrino 2, yang kemudian akan disesuaikan di laptop Lenovo T400 14.1 inch oleh staff IT Intel, melalui layanan software security Absolute Computrace. Walaupun kemampuan pengamanan ini dibangun di laptop T400, namun untuk masalah aktivasi langgganan layanan Computrace akan menjadi optional.

Menurut Bob Galush, vice president Lenovo bagian marketing software dan peripheral, maka hardware atau software akan diproteksi oleh layer tambahan keamanan untuk bisnis notebook PC Lenovo oleh department IT Lenovo. Admin IT Lenovo akan memilih konfigurasi teknologi anti pencuri untuk mengunci laptop individu jika laptop tidak bisa masuk ke Absolute Monitoring Center melalui Internet dalam beberapa periode. Alternatif lainnya, jika laptop dicuri, maka admin dapat mendesain laptop agar terkunci, lain kali si pencuri masuk ke Absolute Monitoring Center.

Walaupun berlangganan layanan Computrace tersebut, namun hardware Intel Anti-Theft PC Protection juga dapat mengunci laptop setelah password yang dimasukkan salah atau tidak bisa memasukkan password yang benar beberapa kali. Jika memang laptop dikembalikan ke pemiliknya setelah dicuri, maka pemiliknya dapat membuka kunci dengan password yang benar. Menurut rencana Lenovo, fitur keamanan di laptop Lenovo T400 tersebut akan hadir tahun ini.
